J. Victor Marshall
J. Victor Marshall is a Research Fellow with the Center on Peace and Liberty at the Independent Institute. He received his bachelor’s degree in history (Phi Beta Kappa) from Stanford University and master’s degree in American history from Cornell University. He is the author of the books To Have and Have Not: Southeast Asian Raw Materials and the Origins of the Pacific War and Drug Wars: Corruption, Counterinsurgency and Covert Operations in the Third World; and co-author of The Iran-Contra Connection: Secret Teams and Covert Operations in Reagan Era (with Peter Dale Scott and Jane Hunter); and Cocaine Politics: Drugs, Armies, and the CIA in Central America (with Peter Dale Scott).
Mr. Marshall has been editorial page editor at the Oakland Tribune, economics editor and technology writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, editorial writer at the San Jose Mercury News, and associate editor of Inquiry. He has been recognized for Best Censored Stories of 1994 and is the recipient of the Thomas M. Storke Award (three times), Best Editorial Award (California Newspaper Publishers Association), People for the American Way Award, Mencken Award, and Contra Costa Press Club Award for Editorial Writing.
His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Infoworld, PC World, Mother Jones, National Review, California Lawyer, American Enterprise, Stanford Magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sacramento Bee, Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars, Journal of American History, Journal of Policy History, and Middle East Report.
